IGI CUT GRADE EXPLAINED
IGI ROUND CUT GRADE
SUMMARY:
- IGI (International Gemological Institute) analyzes the cut grade of a round diamond by comparing its overall proportions, measurements and facet angles with IGI studies of brightness, fire, scintillation and pattern.
- The cut grade is assigned within a range of Ideal, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair and Poor.
- The five criteria that IGI primarily uses for grading a diamond's cut are: Total Depth, Girdle Thickness, Pavilion Depth, Crown Angle, and Table Width. These criteria affect how well a diamond reflects and disperses light.
This lab is most well known for providing retail replacement valuations along with overall quality grades of mounted jewelry for retailers such as Kays or Zales. In the past 5+ years, they have made tremendous strides to elevate their brand and assure accuracy in grading.
would prefer you to purchase a GIA or AGS certified diamond from sellers such as James Allen, Blue Nile, WhiteFlash or Brilliant Earth.
For instance this example from James Allen is GIA certified with "EXCELLENT PROPORTIONS".
