Cut first. Always. Cut controls sparkle, and a poorly cut diamond looks dull regardless of its other grades. Once cut is locked in, we evaluate clarity (VS1–SI1 is the sweet spot for most budgets), then color (G–H faces up white in most settings and saves money versus D–F). Carat weight is the last priority — optimizing the first three C's usually results in a larger-looking stone anyway.

Oval is the second most popular, offering a larger face-up size per carat than round. Cushion and pear shapes are trending upward. GIA (Gemological Institute of America) is the most respected independent diamond grading laboratory in the world. A GIA certificate provides a third-party assessment of a diamond's cut, color, clarity, and carat weight — along with a plot diagram of all inclusions. For any natural diamond over 0.50ct, you should only buy with a GIA certificate. It's your protection against misrepresentation and overpaying. We do not recommend purchasing natural diamonds graded by lesser-known labs.

Compare it against similar stones across multiple retailers at the same specifications. Look at the actual diamond video and images — not just the certificate.
