Great ring previews. Less convenient diamond comparisons.

Brilliant Earth made it easy to picture the finished ring. That was its strength in our shopping test. Keeping diamond details side by side took more work. The setting can win you over. The center stone still has to earn the purchase.

Shopping experience

The site is inviting. The comparison process takes getting used to.

The first search was easy to follow. The education helped too. We had to dig another layer down for the detailed controls, which slowed things once we wanted a closer comparison.

Comparing stones was the sticking point. We moved between listings to check details we wanted together. Saving a favorite from the comparison view took extra steps too. After a few similar diamonds, it was easy to lose track of why we preferred one.

The best way through it is to narrow the list before studying every option. Keep two or three serious candidates. Open each listing and its report in separate tabs. Give yourself a reason to keep each stone, rather than saving everything that fits the budget.

Brilliant Earth engagement rings

The ring presentation is the strongest part of the experience.

The secret halo setting we explored showed why Brilliant Earth appeals to engagement ring shoppers. Multiple angles and hand views helped us judge the design. A skin tone slider added useful context. Those features did more for the buying decision than another polished product photo.

Its ring builder lets you begin with a setting or a natural or lab diamond. It also has a matching wedding ring tool. Starting with the setting makes sense when you know the style you want. Leave enough of the budget for a center stone you would choose on its own.

Ask whether your choice is a standard catalog configuration or a fully custom design. Changing the setting can change the order terms. Get that settled before you approve an alteration.

Brilliant Earth sells both natural diamonds and lab grown diamonds. Decide which you want before comparing prices. A larger lab diamond and a smaller natural diamond answer different buying preferences, even when the ring designs look similar.

For a natural diamond, select GIA in the report filter. The search also offers table, depth, polish, symmetry, fluorescence, and length to width ratio. The proportions chart below shows the report fields behind those controls. Use the numbers from your candidate, not from the sample.

What we would check on a round diamond

For a round, our starting screen is a table of 56 to 58 percent and depth of 60 to 62.4 percent, with a crown angle of 34 to 35 degrees and pavilion angle of 40.6 to 41 degrees. We also look for Excellent polish and symmetry and none to faint fluorescence. Those ranges narrow the search. They do not replace looking at the stone.

Most Sparkle, Best Balance, and Top Quality are Brilliant Earth browsing shortcuts. Treat them as a way to reduce the list. Ask what the retailer’s cut description means for the diamond you selected. A collection name and a report grade answer different questions.

Video availability matters here. Our shopping assessment found clear, close views on many listings, but not every stone had one. The automatic rotation also gave us less control than we wanted. Request the missing view before making a decision, especially if you need to examine a particular inclusion or dark area.

Truly Brilliant and sourcing

Truly Brilliant and blockchain tell you different things.

A sourcing record and a beautiful diamond are two separate things to check. Find out what the collection label promises, then look at the stone itself.

We would not rank a whole retailer as “the most ethical” from a collection page. If a sourcing feature matters to you, find out what it covers, who verifies it, and what you receive with the purchase. Then decide whether that documentation answers your question.

Brilliant Earth pricing

Price the diamond, the setting, and the finished order.

We liked the prices in our Brilliant Earth shopping test. I would still compare the stones you are choosing today. Matching carat, color and clarity does not mean matching cut, visible size or inclusions.

Here is the trade detail buyers miss. The report number identifies the stone, and it is far more useful than a retailer’s stock number when comparing sellers. If the same report appears elsewhere, ask both sellers to confirm the diamond is available. Then compare the complete offer, including the setting and service.

Paying more for a setting you love can be a sensible choice. Paying more because you lost track of the alternatives is not. Write down the actual reason Brilliant Earth wins your comparison. If you cannot name it, keep looking.

Customer service and showrooms

Friendly chat helps. Specific answers help more.

The chat was friendly. The technical answers needed more detail. We asked about Truly Brilliant and Super Ideal criteria, but did not get enough to judge why a particular stone qualified.

Ask one useful question at a time. “What measurements put this stone in that cut category?” is easier to answer than “Is this a great diamond?” Request the report or image that supports the answer. Keep the exchange with your order details.

Brilliant Earth offers store and virtual appointments. A showroom is especially useful for checking ring height, comfort, and wedding band fit. Confirm which setting and diamond you can see before visiting. A display stone shows scale, but it cannot tell you how your chosen center stone looks.

For aftercare, the lifetime manufacturing warranty covers manufacturing defects. Ordinary wear and gemstone loss from wear or damage are separate issues. Service by a jeweler Brilliant Earth has not authorized voids the warranty. Ask about repair approval before taking the ring elsewhere.

Returns, resizing, and upgrades

Read the return rules before changing the ring.

Check whether your exact order qualifies for a return before approving changes. The return and resizing terms make that distinction important.

Check your ring size and design before making changes. An alteration can affect return eligibility.

What the diamond upgrade requires

The upgrade program credits the original diamond purchase price toward an eligible replacement. A natural diamond replacement must cost at least 1.5 times the original value. A lab diamond replacement must cost at least twice the original value.

The diamond needs its original documents and saleable condition. Settings, jewelry, and colored diamonds are excluded. International orders are excluded except Canada. Upgrade purchases are final sale. Budget for taxes and any setting change, and confirm eligibility before treating the credit as part of a future plan.

Buy for a reason you can name.

Choose Brilliant Earth when you can name what wins you over. A setting you keep coming back to is a good reason. An unanswered diamond question is a reason to keep looking. If the design is right, spend the next conversation on the center stone.
